Printz Winner Jellicoe Road Melina Marchetta

All of the children's awards were announced earlier this morning. I was pleasantly surprised and exicted to see Melina Marchetta won the Printz for Jellicoe Road. I love Marchetta's writing. I reviewed the book back in May. I am linking to it today because I think some people are asking them themselves, Melina Marchetta Who? Jellicoe Road What?

You are totally right about the Jellicoe Road what? comments. Over the YALSA book listserv there were sooooo many posts about how no one has heard of the book until now. I was kind of surprised because I had heard of it and last year I had heard of none of the winners/honors but I guess it's because of the blogs I read and Cybils.

I can understand the who's and what's about Marchetta and Jellicoe Road, its a total shock to the system for an author you've never heard of to win, and a lot of people have never heard of Marchetta. If people give Jellicoe Road a chance, they'll see its deserving.

Speaking of Marchetta, I know you really liked Saving Francesca and I just finished a book that reminded me of it a bit: Broken Soup. Have you read that one? Check it out, I think you'll like it!
