I love the mediums he uses--the scratchboard really was fascinating when I was studying Brian's work for a picturebook class. I had no idea how much work goes into simply preparing the board (scratchboard is much like woodcarving, except that he starts with a special kind of board and layers paints or gauche (?) and then works in negative space--it's amazing and I'm not really doing it justice).

But Jerry definitely paved the way, and his very talented family (including by marriage, Andrea Davis-Pinkney) has made some great contributions to children's literature collectively.stacyhttp://www.stacylwhitman.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6482156857828868888.post-62166531305052609362009-08-22T11:55:11.068-04:002009-08-22T11:55:11.068-04:00Great post!Great post!Color Onlinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15062017327837729986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6482156857828868888.post-60329548416095172722009-08-22T10:54:27.566-04:002009-08-22T10:54:27.566-04:00And Ezra Jack Keats!
